Dynasties in field in coming LS poll in India | | | Several leaders from the opposition camp have been ridiculing the Congress for perpetuating what they call dynastic rule in India without realizing that a large number of politicians belonging to the non-Congress camp have been, during the last one decade, encouraging their wards for joining politics. At one stage when former Bihar Chief Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, was arrested on charge of his involvement in the fodder scam he was left with no other alternative but to install his wife Rabri Devi as the Chief Minister despite the fact that Rabri Devi had no experience and was not highly educated. Lalu had to do it to preserve his love for dynastic rule. Since then much water has flowed down various rivers in India and there is now no hesitation on the part of grey-haired politicians, belonging to both the Congress and the non-congress camps, to project and promote their wards. When one talks about Mulayam Singh Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan, Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah, Mufti Mohd. Sayeed, M. Karunanidhi, Dr Karan Singh, Prakash Singh Badal, Ajit Singh, Pranab Mukherjee, P.Chidambaram and others, who have fielded their wards in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections or have their wards heading the state Governments one may not like or support those who have been blaming only the Nehru Gandhi families for perpetuating dynastic rule. The country is at present witnessing a peculiar political scenario in which wards of top political leaders are in the poll fray. Right from President Pranab Mukherjee's son, Abhjit, to Rahul and Varun Gandhi there are over 50 constituencies where daughters and sons of top political leaders are contesting the ensuing Lok Sabha election. Of these majority of candidates have been fielded by the Congress. Four political leaders of prominence belonging to Nehru-Gandhi family are in the field and they are Sonia Gandhi, daughter-in Law of Indira Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, son of Sonia,Meneka Gandhi wife of Sanjay Gandhi and their son Varun Gandhi are contesting the election. Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti is in the poll fray from Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga constituency. Karti is making his debut in Lok Sabha elections from Sivaganga, which is represented by his father in the lower house of Parliament. Senior BJP leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha's son Jayant is contesting from Hazaribagh constituency in Jharkhand. Yashwant Sinha is a Lok Sabha member from Hazaribagh. Sons and Union Ministers of former Congress party leaders, who are no more, are also contesting upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Jyotiraditya Scindia, son of the late Madhavrao Scindia, is contesting from Madhya Pradesh's Guna constituency. He is a Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power. Sachin Pilot, son of late Rajesh Pilot, is contesting from Rajasthan's Ajmer constituency.Sachin is a Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Corporate Affairs. Jitin Prasada, son of late Jitendra Prasada is contesting from Uttar Pradesh's Dhaurahra constituency. He is Minister of State for Human Resource Development. Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra and former Cabinet Minister in UPA government Murli Deora's son Milind is contesting election from South-Mumbai constituency. Milind, Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology and also for Shipping, is a sitting MP from the same seat. Also, Kerala Governor and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's son Sandeep, a sitting MP, is contesting on a Congress ticket from East Delhi constituency. Hence if Farooq, Mufti Sayeed and Karan Singh have assisted their wards to join politics and fight elections they cannot be either faulted or blamed. And the Peoples' Conference, which is also contesting the Lok Sabha poll in north Kashmir seat, has blamed the Muftis and Abdullah's for perpetuating dynastic rule.In fact even in the separatist camps one can see sons being projected as their heirs.Umar Farooq occupied the chair of Mirwaiz Kashmir after his father Molvi Farooq was assassinated. Even Abdul Gani Lone's two sons, Sajjad and Bilal, are in political camp and reports indicate that a number of wards of senior Congress and NC leaders will be getting the party tickets for contesting the next Assembly election. No problem because in India politics like immovable property is usually inherited as has been the case in the Bollywood. |
