Srinagar, Apr 7 : One of the top most government schools in Kashmir was shut on Monday as the institution was waterlogged due to continuous downpour. Principal Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Amira Kadal, in the heart of Srinagar city, was forced to close the institution as school remained out of bounds due to water logging. School administration is mulling to extend the holidays as every classroom and staff room is water logged. Students said there were no classes on Monday as the rain water found its way into the library, staff room, and classrooms. The school ground is water logged while some teachers who managed to make their way to principal's room had to remove their shoes. "School gets inundated and water logged even with a slight downpour thus posing a serious threat to the foundations of school buildings besides disrupting teaching-learning process," a class 12 student, Sumaira Jan, said. The school principal, Tahira Hilali, said water logging is the result of faulty drainage system. "We have apprised the district's administration about the situation and have asked them to make use of suction pumps so that students will not suffer in future," she said. |
