Indian Army ready to face any challenge: Gen Gurmit

Jammu, Apr 7 : General Officer Commanding 15 Corps, Lt General Gurmit Singh has said that Indian Army was ready to face any challenge during elections while situation at Line of Control (LoC) and in hinterland is under control. "We are prepared to face any challenge," Gen Singh told reporters on the sidelines of passing out parade at Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Center Rangreth. He said that situation is under control at LoC and hinterland. "Besides excellent coordination between different security agencies in hinterland, there is effective counter-infiltration grid in place at LoC," the GOC said, adding that there is beefed up vigil at LoC. Gen Gurmit, who interacted briefly with reporters, congratulated the pass outs and hoped that soldiers will put their best in the field. "I hope that you will give selfless service towards the nation," he told the soldiers in his address.
A total number of 310 soldiers were administered oath during the passing out parade. The function was attended by over 2500 relatives of the soldiers along with a number of civil and military officials.
Soon after his arrival at J&KLI Regimental Center, GOC along with Gurmeet Kaur, Regional President AWWA, joined their hands in the Arboriculture Drive organized by Somgarh Military Station. Under the drive, approximately 3400 trees have been planted this year.
"The effort underlines the commitment of the Indian Army soldiers towards their responsibilities as good citizens especially those of humanitarian and social nature," GOC said.
Brigadier Pankaj Sinha, Commandant Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre, highlighted and praised the vital role played by the Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar, and the Forest Department of J&K, which were instrumental in providing advice, assistance as well as contributed with saplings for this drive and made it a huge success.
As a prelude to the drive, a painting competition was also organised for children on the theme "Save Trees, Plant Trees - Save The World." Gurmeet Kaur felicitated the winners of the competition to motivate them and make the future generation both aware as well as responsible towards the cause.
