Protesters force Lone to flee from native place | | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Apr 19: The Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akber Lone could not enter his native village today as protesters denied entry to him. He was scheduled to address a workers meeting at Shahgundoo in Bandipora district. According to reports, the protesters encircled his vehicle outside the village and forced him to leave without addressing the meeting. A NC village head of area wishing not to be named informed Early Times that as soon as the cavalcade of Akbar Lone reached Shahgundoo village where he was supposed to attend workers meeting in a house of one prominent National Conference Worker Maqbool Gazi. The locals, however urged Lone to leave as they had decided not to host any election rally in the village. Akber initially refused to leave and exchanged heated arguments with angry villagers. Meanwhile, the village head said people started pelting stones on his cavalcade. He said the locals had planned not to allow Lone address his workers and observed shut down. The villagers also chanted anti-National Conference slogans. They also raised slogans against Lone. The ding dong battles between the protesters and the police left several persons including a few police men injured. Later, the angry protesters ransacked the house of Gazi where the workers' meeting was scheduled to be held. NC district president, Bandipora, Khazar Mohammad's house was also ransacked. The protesters were angry over Lone's failure to take up Farhat Ahmad Dar's killing. Farhat was allegedly killed in a firing incident recently. |
