According to sources, an 18 year old girl of village Jalian Mandi in Poonch district was allegedly kidnapped by one Moulvi Mohammed Fareed Malik son of Mohammed Akhtar Malik of Mandi in Poonch alongwith five other persons namely Mohammed Akram son of Mohammed Yaqoob, a Laboratory Assistant in Government High School (GHS) Mandi; Mohammed Asadullah, a Junior Engineer in Road and Buildings Department, Sub-division Mandi; Abdul Rehman, a teacher in Government Middle School (GMS) Mandi; Mohammed Bashir son of Ali Akbar, resident of Sagra, Mendhar and Mohammed Aslam Malik of Arai, Poonch. Of these, Junior Engineer (JE) Asadullah is close relative of National Conference (NC) MLC Shehnaz Ganai. According to sources, Abdullah enjoys the patronage and it is because of this reason that the officials are going lax. They added that other accused are also well-connected and hence, the police is not taking the case seriously at the highest level. They added that the girl was kidnapped by physically handicapped but well-connected Moulvi Mohammed Fareed Malik from her residence alongwith the above mentioned five other people. Sources said that the accused Fareed took girl to Budhal area where he alongwith Mohammed Bashir allegedly gang-raped the girl for many days. The four other accused, according to the police sources allegedly aided and abetted in the abduction and rape of the girl. They further said that father of the girl lodged an FIR with police; following which newly appointed DySP Hilal Ahmed began the probe to locate the girl and book the culprits for this heinous crime. A case was registered at police station Mandi vide FIR no.15 under section 376 and probe was initiated. The girl was recovered from Mandi and after medical examination; her statements were recorded in Session Court, Poonch where she accused the six of kidnap and rape by the two of them. However, when SSP Poonch Shamsher Hussain was contacted, he expressed ignorance and said that he had no knowledge of any such case having been registered in Poonch district. "I do not know anything about this. This is news to me. I would find out the details," added Hussain.
