After failing to abduct a girl, people set militant's house on fire in Sopore | Police cop also arrested, arms also recovered | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Apr 19: Angry protesters caused damage to the house of a militant in a locality in the restive Sopore town of North Kashmir's Baramulla district. The protestors put the house on fire but timely intervention saved the house from being completely gutted. Reports said that a group of people while registering their protest against the alleged involvement of the militant in a failed abduction of a girl in the Nowpora locality of Sopore put the house of militant on fire. However, timely action of the fire tenders saved the house with not many damages caused to it. The militant owing allegiance to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) along with a suspected police cop was arrested after locals raised hue and cry over the 'abduction' of the girl. "LeT operative Imran Ahmad Dar alias Jagroo flanked by his associates in the morning barged into the house of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din War in Nowpora locality of Sopore and tried to abduct his daughter. However, the family raised an alarm which caught the attention of their neighbours. Imran and his associates fled from the spot leaving behind an assault rifles," reports said. As soon as the news of the girl's attempted abduction spread in the area angry people raided the house of Imran and ransacked the belongings. The protesters also tried to set the house on fire. In the meantime police reached the spot and brought fire tenders to douse the flames. The house, suffered partial damage in the incident. The LeT militant along with a suspected police cop identified as Mudasir Ahmad Shah was later on arrested. SOG and RR recovered the AK-47 rifle as well. Mudasir is reportedly associated with SOG and is posted at Handwara. A police spokesman in a statement said that Sopore Police received an information that some unknown gunmen entered into the house of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din War son of Mohammad Akbar War resident of Nowpora Kalan with the intention to commit an offence. "Upon this information a joint party of Police, CRPF and Army rushed to the spot and on reaching the spot the house owner had already overpowered one of the persons Mudasir Ahmad son of Mubarak Ahmad Shah. On his disclosure the joint party rushed to the house of a militant Imran Ahmad Dar son of Sanaullah Dar resident of Nowpora Kalan who is the master mind of the criminal act and was apprehended along with AK-47 rifle and other ammunition. However, other two accomplices managed their escape while taking advantage of the darkness and are still absconding and their search is going on," said the police spokesman. The spokesman said the identity of absconding persons has been established. He said Sopore police has registered a case FIR number 57/2014 under section 7/25 Indian Act and investigation has been set into motion. He added that Imran was earlier arrested along with one PoK militant Fahadullah and was released on bail recently. Srinagar based Defence spokesman Lt Col N N Joshi said that in a joint operation, Army and JKP today apprehended a LeT militant from Nowpora village of Sopore. "Based on an intelligence input regarding presence of a militant in Nowpora village of Sopore, a joint operation by Army and JKP was launched at 6 AM today, which resulted in arrest of a LeT militant, Imran Jagroo Tantray, resident of village Nowpora. Imran is a close associate of LeT commander Fahadullah who was apprehended from Sopore last year," said Lt Col Joshi. The Defence spokesman said that one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, one UBGL and eight rounds of AK-47 ammunition were also recovered from the militant. |
