Stalkers chopped off girl's ear in Anantnag, 7 arrested

Anantnag, June 6: A station house officer in South Kashmir's Anantnag district was placed under suspension on Friday for giving misleading information to media which created law and order problem in his area of responsibility.
According to sources, Deputy Inspector General of Police South Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar on Friday placed Station House officer Dooru Mohd Rafiq under suspension for giving misleading information to media related to an unprecedented shameful incident, in which a group of stalkers allegedly chopped off ear of 10th class female student. According to locals, a group of stalkers on Wednesday allegedly chopped off ear of a 10th class female student in Nowgam area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district when she was waiting for her parents in the late evening after returning from School trip along with her friends. 17- year -old victim studying in Girls Higher Secondary School Verinag was referred to SKIMS, Srinagar for specialized treatment.
The incident triggered protests in the area resulting minor breach in law and order, however on the assurance of police order was restored soon. But today after some local dailies carried out the version of SHO that girl was not attacked but had received injury while de-boarding the bus fuelled the anger prevailing among the people.Sources said that on Friday morning scores of people of Hilad Chowgam protested and marched from the village to Police Station demanding action against the culprits involved in the crime as well as against the SHO for giving misleading information to media which created law and order problem.
Locals told Early Times that this shameful incident took place a couple of days before but they remained calm on the assurance of SHO that culprits involved in the crime will be punished. " We opted peaceful means after SHO assured us that the culprits involved in the crime will be punished according to the law of the land but we got astonished to know that the same SHO has termed it just an accident in local newspapers," they. Additional SP Anantnag, Tahir Hussain told media men in Dooru that have took the cognizance of the incident and initiated action according to law.
"We have registered an FIR bearing number 25/2014 under section 323/294 and have started investigation in this regard." He said, adding, So far all the culprits involved in the crime have been arrested.
Arrested have been identified as Nisar Ahmad sheikh, Waseem Ahmad Bhat, Ishfaq Ahmad Dar , Ishfaq Ahmad Rather , Suhail Ahmad Sheikh, Ishtiyaq Ahmad Hajam and van driver Rayees Ahmad Gani. All seven arrested stalkers hail from Novgam Verinag. Meanwhile, DIG South Kashmir, Vijay confirmed to Early Time that he had placed SHO Dooru under suspension. "SHO of Dooru police station, was suspended for giving false information to a local newspaper about the incident," he said. The Chief Education Officer Anantnag has also demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits involved in the crime.
