Fake ambulances not only fleecing commuters, posing security threat | | | K Koushal
Jammu, June 6: Unabated movement of 'fake ambulances' in and around the Jammu area is not only fleecing the commuters but also posing a serious security threat besides violating Motor vehicle Act (MVA). "Some of the persons for their personal interest are using private and commercial vehicles are being used as ambulances in and around the Jammu which is serious security threat", said a source adding that these ambulances too violating Motor Vehicle Act (MVA). Citing some numbers of the vehicles standing outside city hospitals, sources said the runners/owners often are seen asking higher freight rates from the aggrieved families as compared to the usual rates of the hospital ambulances. They added most of the time these so called ambulance runners are seen in negotiating rates with the attendants of the patients being shifted to some super specialty hospital outside the state. Sources alleged that whole thing is going under the noose of police and transport administration but none is bothered to take action on ground. The unholy nexus not only has become a 'gold mine' for some vested interest who are just taking advantage of the plight of the aggrieved families of patients. When contacted a police officer pleading anonymity said maintained that these fake ambulances have become a security threat as normally no one used to stop the any ambulance on any naka checking and miscreant can took advantage of this. "No individual can own an ambulance, "ambulances are registered on the name of trust, hospital and nursing homes", categorically underlined said sources further adding that some persons have got their registration as private and commercial vehicles and have later transformed vehicles into ambulances by erecting lights which is illegal. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Traffic Jammu, Shafquat Watali admitingtly said that this is a serious issue and after taking various stake holders into confidence the things will be streamlined so that innocent masses may not fell victim to some vested interest elements. Replying to the query regarding the fake ambulances, IGP jammu Zone briefly said though any such matter yet has not been brought into my knowledge but if it is reported we shall certainly take action against the erring persons. |
