Omar’s miss to Kheer Bhawani Mela, leaves KPs fuming

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 6: As thousands of Kashmiri Pandits thronged Mela Kheer Bhawani at Tulmulla in Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district today, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah did not visit the Mela thus causing heartburns and resentment among the Kashmiri Pandits. Omar did not bother to take stock of facilities provided to the devotees during the Mela.
Talking to Early Times, General Manager Dharmarth Trust, R.L Bhan said that Chief Minister should have managed at least five minutes out of his busy schedule to visit Kheer-Bhawani on this special occasion like Governor N.N Vohra and Saif-ud-Din Soz did during the day.
"We were told that Chief Minister is busy with a meeting but I don't understand why his father and National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah couldn't visit us," said Bhan. He appreciated the arrangements made by District Administration this year and added that compared to previous years Government officials have put everything in order as per the requirement.
Keeping his tradition of communicating through tweets alive, Omar instead of visiting Mela Kheer-Bhawani extended greetings to the Kashmiri Pandit community through his tweets.
"Warm greetings to the members of the Kashmiri Pandit community on the occasion of the Kheer Bhawani Mela," Omar wrote on micro-blogging site twitter. Justifying his 'busy' schedule Chief Minister tweeted, "I regret that the meetings with the 14th Finance Commission has meant, I haven't been able to visit Tulmullah Kheer-Bhawani today."
Earlier in the day, Omar while mentioning Kashmiri Pandits in his tweet wrote "I look forward to working with the new Government as they unveil their plans for the honorable return of the displaced Pandit community."
Pertinently last year, Omar had to face wrath of people after Kashmiri Pandits registered a protest on the eve of his visit to Kheer-Bhawani for administrative mishandling and dearth of basic facilities to the devotees.
Meanwhile, in connection with the Kheer Bhawani Mela thousands of Kashmiri Pandits thronged the revered temple at Tulmulla and amid religious chants and ringing of bells, Pandits paid obeisance at the temple which in the local parlance of Kashmiri Pandits is known as the Mata Kheer Bhawani Mandir.
According to one devotee Sanjay Ji, "Mela Kheer-Bhawani since decades has become a symbol of communal harmony brotherhood among Muslims and non Muslims of the Jammu and Kashmir particularly among the people of Kashmir which include Kashmiri Pandits as well."
Kashmiri Pandits believe that temple in Tulmulla is dedicated to one pious Ragnya Devi, who was one among the many incarnations of Goddess Durga and is the holiest Kashmiri Pandit shrine in the Kashmir division like many other religious places.
