HC stays transfer of Health Officer SMC | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 11: Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Wednesday stayed transfer of Health Officer Srinagar Municipal Corporation Dr Shafqat Khan and directed authorities to allow him to discharge duties. Hearing a petition by Khan, a single Bench of the court also issued notice to respondents including Commissioner Secretary Health, Dy Secretary Health, Health Minister and Commissioner SMC. On May 28 this year, Khan was transferred Immunization Officer Pulwama, vide an order by the Commissioner Secretary Health which according to the petition was at the behest of Health Minister. Petitioner said he was on deputation for three years but without completing his tenure, he was transferred which is "illegal and malafide". During the arguments, Khan's counsel advocate Mian Qayoom said that his client was told during a meeting that he should not venture into duties of taking samples of food items and was told "it is not Europe and expect high quality of food." The petitioner said that he was also performing duties as designate officer under FSSA and while performing his duties, took samples of Kanwal, Khyber and another company which were found adulterated. Taking cognizance, he said a division bench of the high court imposed Rs 10 cr each to three companies and directed launching of prosecution against them which according to him annoyed the minister. |
