SRINAGAR, July 11: National Conference has maintained a meaningful silence on Article 370 and AFSPA if they have not any issues for the party leaders which they have been raising from time to time to play with the emotions of the people.
Given the mode of the newly elected people at the Centre the leaders of the party have seemingly decided not to touch these issues because there are no takers of these slogans at the Centre. Moreover, the party wants to keep the option of alliance open with the people in power at the Centre.
Given the weak position of the party on the political front, leaders of the National Conference can't afford to enter into a confrontation with the just sworn in Modi led Government. Infact Omar Abdullah led National Conference has no consideration for the people in power at the Centre.
People of the state believe that it is 'Aagay kunwan peachay khai' like situation for the leaders of the National Conference. People believe that the leaders of the party can't take step in any direction because they find themselves in the well with the lion at its mouth.
"Why don't the leaders of the party issue fiery statements these days. Till yesterday they didn't miss any opportunity to raise the issues of Article 370, lease of the firing range and the repealing of AFSPA," said some people at Srinagar while sharing their ideas with the Early Times.
These people went on saying that the leaders of the National Conference made emotional statements about these issues only to hoodwink the people before the Parliamentary elections but their trick to woe the voters didn't work.
People of the state generally believe that it will be no wonder if the party forges an alliance with the BJP to stay in power which seems distant reality given the wave of anger and hate against the party. The results of the recently concluded Parliamentary elections testify this.
As per Tariq Ali from Srinagar who was talked to by the Early Times said," National Conference is hanging between the earth and the sky. The party is doing a patchwork these days in terms that it is giving some packages to the employees which is a futile exercise".
It is the perception of the people that the Pradesh Congress Committee on which the National Conference relied heavily is itself at the bottom in political history adding to the woes of the party.
If reliable sources are to be believed the Congress president, Madam Sonia Gandhi has rejected the plea of Omar Abdullah to forge an alliance before the coming Assembly elections which shows that there are darker days ahead for the National Conference.
