Holiday on July 13 unconstitutional: JKVM | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 13: Kashmiri Pandits all over the state and outside observed 13th July as black day. In this connection Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch (JKVM) organized a mammoth meeting at Sanjeevni Sharda Bhawan in which the participants recalled the ghastly events that took place on 13th July 1931 in Srinagar. The speakers gave a comprehensive review of the communal and excluvist agenda of the perpetrators of the riots on that day in which Hindus of Kashmir were selectively targeted. Main speaker a well known social activist Pradeep Kaul termed the events of 1931 a conspiracy against the then government of Maharaja Hari Singh which was fulfilling its duty to maintain law and order that had turned worse due to the arrest of a cook Abdul Qadir who had given inflammatory lectures denounce the Maharaja and Hindus of the state. Adding further Kaul said that the subsequent killing and looting property of Hindus in the valley kick started a secessionist and separatist mindset due to which Kashmiri Pandits had to bear a continuous onslaught and finally in 1990 were thrown out of the valley. Upender Ambardar a notes social activist said that how could looters and law breakers turn martyrs while as actually the poor Hindus who were butchered in Vicharnag, kanikoot and other places of the valley were the real martyrs. Dr Ramesh Bhat noted Social activist warned the government to desist from glorifying the cause of murderers and creating a false history which will undermine the plural and historical nature of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Noted advocate Kashmiri Lal Bhat said that the government should not proclaim 13th July as a holiday and instead to stop calling it a martyrs' day. He further said that a mass movement would have been created with the support of the people of Jammu so that this huge insult on the minorities is reversed. B L Pandita a renowned thinker while speaking said that those who are glorifying looters of 1931 as martyrs are today vehemently opposing the return of Pandits to the valley. He said that while the whole community needs to formulate a joint response on the return module it also needs to close ranks so that the displaced community can fight jointly for their rights. |
