People crave for basic amenities in Omar's constituency | | | Muhammad Mukaram
SRINAGAR, July 21: Even though ruling National Conference (NC)-Congress government has taken slew of measures after the drubbing in Lok Sabha polls, people still crave for basic amenities in Ganderbal, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's constituency. Omar has failed to initiate the work on the much awaited 93 MW power project. Although the work on much awaited 93MW Power Project was set to be started couple of decades back in 1992-93 the work is yet to kick off despite the frequent assurance from Omar and other higher officials. The locals and workers of National Conference party have expressed displeasure as the ruling government has failed to construct Central University of Kashmir despite acquiring 4600 kanals of land in Ganderbal district in 2009. The CUL is still in functioning from a rented house. Lack of accommodation and shortage of manpower in Sub-District Hospital Ganderbal is causing huge inconvenience to patients and staff members. "The health sector in the district is in shambles with the sub- district hospital lacking proper facilities and efficient staff. Doctors refer patients with minor ailments to Srinagar as they lack resources to treat them," said Abdul Salam, a resident of Ganderbal. "Non-accessibility of our elected representative is the root cause of problems being faced by us. The district hospital building in CM's constituency is still incomplete after passing of four years," said a group of locals. Interestingly, the locals claim that designating Ganderbal district as developed district has stagnated all developmental initiatives of the villages. "Whenever we approach for any official assistance, we are being ignored on the basis of already being developed", they said. |
