Cong divorce letter dampens NC morale | | | Shakeel a Khan
SRINAGAR, July 21: Finally the Pradesh Congress Committee has handed over the divorce letter to the National Conference after their bonhomie for nearly six years thus shooting down the morale of its coalition partner. This development has served as a shell shock to the National Conference and the chances of its recovery are minimal. The damaged ship of the National Conference is sinking fast and it will be difficult to pull it out of the 'Mariana Trench'. This particular development seems has broken the back of the leaders of the National Conference who find it hard to come to the terms now. Omar Abdullah's statement that it was he who rejected the idea of pre poll alliance with the Congress is just an attempt to divert the attention of the party workers and keep his party afloat. Nobody is ready to digest the statement of the junior Abdullah that he had told the Congress high command ten days before that National Conference is in no mood for the pre poll alliance. Experts believe that the decision of the Congress high command to contest the upcoming assembly elections on its own could prove detrimental for the National Conference given its performance since 2002 where it couldn't prove its political might as people are fed up with the dynasty rule. Going by the analysis of these experts, Jammu province is no longer a protected zone for the National Conference. Given the strong inroads made by the BJP in Jammu and the progress made by the PDP all over the state is going to leave the NC at the bottom as far as winning the number of seats in the coming assembly elections is concerned. They believe if the BJP succeeds in keeping up the spirit of the parliamentary elections and if PDP succeeds in consolidating its position then it is for sure that these parties are going to cause damage to the Congress and National Conference respectively, hence going to bring forth an interesting situation and is for sure to make PDP and Congress join the hands and ultimately form the next government. There is one more testing time for the National Conference to come. That is when the party comes out with its full list of the candidates for the assembly elections; it is going to worsen the bickering within the party that has been going on for quite some time now since it may not be able to please everybody within the party. Some People at Srinagar who talked to the Early Times said, "The morale of the leaders belonging to the National Conference is so low that the senior Abdullah has seemingly lost the taste for the coming assembly elections which depicts that the he has conceded defeat even before the enforcement of the 'Model Code Of Conduct'. |
