Lal Singh does Azad bashing, calls him "cheat"

Kunal Shrivatsa
JAMMU, July 21: A day after announcing his resignation from the Congress, two-time former Lok Sabha member Choudhary Lal Singh while slamming former Union Health Minister and Congress veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad alleged that the latter ditched him during Lok Sabha polls as party High Command had decided to repeat him from Udhampur-Doda constituency.
Leveling serious allegation against Azad, Lal Singh said that he was denied the mandate for Parliamentary polls at the last minute since a conspiracy was hatched against him by the senior Congress leader in New Delhi.
While addressing a press conference here today, Lal Singh, who was accompanied by his wife Kanta Andotra- a former MLA from Basohli, minced no words in venting his anger against Azad as the former Member of Parliament throughout his twenty-minute long media interaction didn't focus on anything else except 'Azad bashing'.
"I have decided to quit Congress since I was feeling suffocated in the party….After consulting and taking nod of party workers in a meeting held yesterday at Kathua I finally made up my mind to leave Congress….Party has no space for those leaders who are honest and straight forward… Congress has become a hub of manipulators and cheaters like Ghulam Nab Azad who lose no opportunity in back stabbing others," said Lal Singh.
"Azad ditched me on several occasions… He (Azad) not only played a key role in cancellation of my ticket from Udhampur seat but also manipulated things later on since Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi assured him of a MLC seat and a Ministerial berth in the state Cabinet," said Singh further accusing Azad.
Lal Singh, who was all guns blazing against Azad alleged that the latter left no stone unturned in forcing him to leave the Congress party.
"I quit Congress because of Azad only…. Azad wants to see every Congress leader and worker obedient to him…. I am a leader of masses and have my own vote bank and support… I am not among those who will be always at Azad's beck and call….I'll campaign against Azad and Congress in the entire state in the next Assembly polls and expose his (Azad's) real face among people," said Singh.
"Before the onset of Lok Sabha poll process, Azad gave an impression that he was reluctant to contest from Udhampur-Doda constituency, but under cover, he had given assurance to High Command that he will ensure the victory of Congress party on both the seats of Jammu province if party high command allows him to contest from Udhampur-Doda segment… However, Azad's deception cost Congress both the seats of Jammu region," he alleged.
Responding to a query that whether he would join any other political party, Lal Singh said that he is getting offers of joining from various parties but nothing has been finalized so far.
"I am receiving invitations from different parties to join but it is only in the initial stages and yet to take a concrete shape but I will definitely contest upcoming Assembly elections from Basohli constituency either as an independent or may be as a candidate of any other political party," maintained Singh.
