Confusion, choas continued on Srinagar roads due to traffic jams | | | Srinagar, July 21 : Even though the traffic police claimed to have banned operating of unregistered cabs in the city, confusion and choas continued in most roads in the summer capital due to frequent traffic jams. The traffic police has announced that in a bid to decongest the city roads, no unregistered cabs would be allowed to operate from roads within the municipal limits. The cabs would be seized the traffic police had warned. However, the situation on the ground was totally different as cabs, particularly Tata Sumo vehciles, were still plying from different parts of the city, including Jehangir Chowk near State Accountability Commission (SAC) office with traffic police personnel witnessing as mute spectators for unknown reasons. Dozens cabs, not registered with any identified stand in the city were seen picking up and dropping passengers at different places, including both sides of fly-over near Jehangir chowk, leading to traffic jams.Cabs were seen taking right turn at Exhibition crossing, forcing vehicles behind to wait till these vehicles (cabs) cross the area illegally with traffic police personnel watching silently. Private vehicle owners alleged that when the traffic signal goes 'green' these cabs took right turn and by the time they cross the area, signals again turn red. This process continued till all cabs cross the area, they said and alleged that Superintendent of Police (traffic) was also informed about this problem a number of time without getting any relief.Similar scenes were witnessed at Dalgate, Iqbal Park, Exhibition crossing and Rambagh, where passenger vehicles are picking up and dropping passengers. |
