CWA calls on CE PDD, demands uninterrupted power supply | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 21: A delegation of the Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) led by its president Vikram Gour today met Chief Engineer M&R.E, Shahnaz Goni in her office chamber and apprised him of the problems being faced by people due to erratic power supply. CWA members expressed their serious concern over frequent and unscheduled power cuts even in fully metered areas like Trikuta Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and the like in the entire Jammu Region making living impossible. Huge voltage fluctuations is becoming order of the day, causing enormous damage to electric appliances and gadgets. Power cuts every alternate hour prevent even inverters charging which adds to the miseries of the consumers. It was pointed out that power cuts should be strictly pre-planned as per the prevailing load conditions with at least 3-4 hours gap so that the inverters become functional during the curtailment period. Chief Engineer PDD gave patient hearing to the problems, explained that to improve the power supply system the consumers must also cooperate with PDD to minimize the wastage and misuse of power and disclose exact load to enable "Utility' to plan accordingly. She was, however not sure of any immediate improvement in the supply position. She disclosed that in the R-APDRP Jammu Region will get Rs 610-crores for improving the entire distribution network after which the power supply will certainly improve. But this will take 3-4 years time. Public help line is being established within 15-days. |
