Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Aug 13: With the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming assembly elections drawing closer, the tall claims of Omar Abdullah led coalition government to fill up of the seventy thousand posts is unlikely to turn into a reality.
The assertions of General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, Lieutenant General Subrata Sahai that a comprehensive employment package will help the youth of the valley to change their mind is a significant rejoinder that unemployment continues to be a main problem in Kashmir valley.
"It is the opinion of the general that unemployment has given rise to militancy in the valley but it is a known fact that the government has done nothing over the years to boost the morale of the youth of the state. In fact the government is thoughtless about this issue and it is no wonder that they make hue and cry about this issue because the elections are round the corner," said a group of unemployed youth who talked to Early Times.
These youth exclaimed in surprise that how come the government fills seventy thousand vacant posts in a period of just two months or less than that when the process for that hasn't been initiated. As per these youth, had the government been serious about this burning issue, they would have taken steps regarding the filling of the posts at least one year before. The government doesn't seem to be serious about the filling of the vacant posts is a distant reality, at least during the left over time of the coalition government. This problem is worsening with the each passing day as the pass outs come in great number from universities and colleges giving rise to the unmanageable situation in the state.
Early Times has learnt that security agencies have sounded a threat that if the unemployment problem in the state is not addressed on the priority, more educated youth from the valley may join the militant ranks.
"The weak engagement policy of the government has failed to channelize the talent of the youth of the state. The youth of the state, particularly from the valley, have got no access to the named and famed companies across the country nor is there any such provision as far as our state is concerned. This has caused a sense of alienation among the youth and they can resort to any unfair practice," said Gulzar Ahmad, a post graduate in Zoology, from Budgam.
