BGSBU seeks 'permission' from University authorities to hoist Tricolor on I-Day
8/13/2014 10:58:59 PM
Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Aug 13: Some students of College of Engineering and Technology (COE&T) of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) have approached the university authorities to hoist national flag on the occasion of Independence Day this year.
Pertinent to mention that since the inception of BGSBU about 9 years ago and despite being funded by University Grant Commission (UGC) university authorities have never celebrated Independence Day or Republic Day in the university campus.
The reason was reportedly domination of Kashmiri students who instead of celebrating these national days have several times raised anti India and Pro Pakistan slogans in the university.
Rashid Choudhary, Registrar said that no individual can hoist National flag while Prof Asghar, principal COF&T said that he has forwarded the letter to the Vice Chancellor for granting permission to the students.
When contacted by some reporters, Prof Hamal, VC said that he is out of station and was not aware about any such development in the university.
Some of the students who have also approached the police to provide security to them as some bad elements can disrespect the flag hoisting ceremony, have been identified as Sunil Bhagat, Subham Kesar, M Singh and Nikhil.
They said they will hoist the National Flag at Nabrang square in the university complex.
"Any body can hoist National Flag at any place subjected to due respect to the National Flag. There should not be any dispute over this issue and I will talk to the VC in this matter" said Jatinder Singh, IAS, DDC.
Students of COE&T reportedly with active support by the students of majority community are adamant to hoist the National Flag and were told by the Registrar that if any untoward incident took place these students will be responsible.
Meanwhile SHO, Rajouri has directed the in-charge BGSBU police post to provide security to these students during function if demanded by them.
Karan Thakur, state vice president Bajrang Dal has said that they will visit BGSBU on August, 15 to join flag hoisting ceremony by the students. He added that Rashid Choudhary, Registrar has no right to stop the students from hoisting national flag.
