Soz camping in Delhi, awaits final decision on coalition's fate
Cong high command asks workers to get ready for polls

SRINAGAR, Aug 13: Congress high command has taken a serious note of senior National Conference Ministers abstaining from the Coalition Coordination Commaittee meeting which was scheduled to be held earlier this week.
Congress insiders told Early Times that party high command has informed the JKPCC leaders to get ready for polls. "Soon after the NC leaders skipped the all important CCC meet we took up the issue with the Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi and asked her to take a final call on continuing the coalition with the National Conference," a senior Congress leader said.
He said the Congress high command today informed the party leaders to ask the workers to get ready for polls as the final decision about coalition's fate would be taken soon.
Sources said the JKPCC Chief Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz is presently in New Delhi and is holding deliberations with the Congress high command over the future course of action.
When Early Times contacted Prof Soz he refused to comment about the purpose of his visit to Delhi. "Ambika Soniji has given a statement. I have nothing to say," he said and dropped the phone.
All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and JK Congress affairs in charge Ambika Soni while talking to the reporters in New Delhi had asserted that the Congress would aggressively pursue issues like problems of refugees and border migrants. "I am aware of the statements of NC leaders during their political programmes in different parts of the state," She said.
"Every political party has its own agenda, but the Government should not take such statements as an excuse to ignore important issues. I had asked the State Government to implement the 73rd and 74th Amendments of the Constitution, but nothing concrete was done in this regard."
Sources said that Soz and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad have conveyed it to the party high command that if the alliance with NC continues it would hit the party in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
A senior Congress leader said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi raking up the issue of giving citizenship rights to refugees from western Pakistan and rehabilitating Kashmiri Pandits during his speech in Kargil on Tuesday has shaken Congress. "If we don't act we can face a devastating result in Jammu region," he added.
Pertinently, fresh wave of trouble engulfed the National Conference-Congress coalition earlier this week after NC leaders skipped the NC-Congress Coalition Coordination Committee meet to protest against the recent remarks of the JKPCC Chief Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz that Congress had suffered due to "misgovernance" of NC. After the NC leaders failed to turn up JKPCC leaders took up the matter with the Congress high command and urged the All India Congress Committee chairperson to take final call on alliance with NC.
The JKPCC spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma while talking to Early Times earlier this week had said, "NC members deliberately skipped the scheduled meeting as they were not serious about the important issues pertaining to the state."
He had said that the matter has been taken up with the Congress high command and the party President, Sonia Gandhi would decide whether Congress would continue to be the part of the coalition Government or not.
Sources said that JKPCC Chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz is presently camping in Delhi to know the final decision of the Congress high command.
