Frequent cuts, low voltage, fluctuation irk people

Jammu, Aug 13: The unscheduled curtailment, low voltage, blinking power is giving sleepless night to local inhabitant, and also damaging electrical appliances in Miran-Sahib and adjoining areas falling under Power Development Department (PDD) sub division of Gandhi Nagar Division. Nowadays, the inhabitant of Karan Nagar, Rani Bagh, Lower Gadigarh and Rohi More are facing problem of low voltage, due to erratic power supply, has deprived the students from study, make the life miserable old citizen and newly born baby. The erratic power supply is also damaging the electrical appliances like refrigerator, fans, cooler and other electronic goods. "The PDD employees have hand in gloves with some influential families of this area to establish illegal connection for ACs, owing to order-load the fluctuation is taking place", said locals, adding that illegal connections have made human lives difficult. Balbir Singh, a resident of Karan Bagh, said that he purchased the refrigerator last month, but due to fluctuation of light, the fans, refrigerator has gone ruined. "Instead of scheduled curtailment, the PDD has additionally expanded curtailment period six to eight hours. Students in these areas are also facing difficulties while study, un-scheduled power cuts makes life miserable", he added. Another local said that just a few meters away from Karan Bagh, a residential colony whose un-interrupted supply is being made from Bishnah Sub division, but un-fortunately they were being ignored as their plights remained un-heard. When contacted Sanjeev Gupta, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) told said that shortage of staff was hampering functioning of PDD in area. "We need sufficient man power to curb illegal connection. But at present we have shortage of man, and we are doing our best to serve people", he said, adding that it was our responsibility to prevent power theft.
