Pak Rangers shatter peace after flag meet, target 3 BSF posts at Akhnoor | | | Jammu, Aug 28: After remaining calm for two consecutive nights, the International Border (IB) once again came alive shortly after the Pak Rangers ended their first flag meeting with Indian border guards in Pargwal area of Akhnoor to de-escalate the border tension. According to official sources, the Rangers opened unprovoked firing on at least three to four BSF posts in Pargwal area of Akhnoor sector around 11.50 p.m. After some time, the exchange of firing stopped but the same was resumed around 4 a.m and continued till 5.55 a.m on Thursday morning. The bullets hit two houses in the village but people escaped unhurt, official sources said. The BSF troops retaliated heavily to the Pakistani firing. The ceasefire violations by the Rangers came barely seven hours after the conclusion of the Commandant-level flag meeting at Nikowal Border Outpost (BoP) in Pargwal sub-sector. However, the borderline in Arnia, R S Pura, Kanachak, Ramgarh, and Gajansoo sub-sectors along IB, which witnessed over 45 days firing, remained clam for the third night without any firing by Pak troops. "There was no firing in Arnia and R S Pura belt", Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), R S Pura, Devender Singh said. This is 24th ceasefire violations in the month of August. Two villagers have been killed and 17 others including 4 BSF jawans suffered injuries in the ceasefire violations. Home Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to visit the border areas tomorrow to take stock of the situation at the ground level. |
