PNBMT Nodal org for Hindu temples, shrines of Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 31 : Notwithstanding the commitments of the government, the law for preservation and the protection of temples and religious lands of the Hindus of Kashmir was not enacted in the just concluded autumn session of the state legislature. Detailing the systematic betrayal of the government, Dr R L Bhat, spokesperson of Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust, the Nodal organization of the Hindus of Kashmir spearheading the temples and shrines bill said that in March 2014 government assured in the assembly that since there had been no representative of Kashmiri Hindus in the Select Committee and that the deficiency would be made good in the Joint Select committee and the shrine bill will be cleared in the next session. Bhat said that was a commitment all the ranking ministers of the government including the Chief Minister had repeatedly made to the public and the delegations of the PNBMT. The actions of the government clearly tell that it was shaming. The Joint select committee was not notified for three months after the speaker of Legislative Assembly had made the declaration in the house. Then a committee was formed and it did not contain the representative, the government and the speaker had talked of. The very first meeting of Joint Select committee scheduled belatedly on the 1st of July 2014 did not take place. The next meeting was scheduled for 19th of August i.e. just days before the last session of Assembly. While the representative had been called as a 'special invitee' not a member for the last meeting, the chairman himself, did not come for the meeting. While some of the opposition members came for the meeting, the meeting could not take place, due to most of the fifteen members including the chairman not attending. The spokesman questioned the sincerity of the government and deplored the double standards of the people pretending to fight for the cultural heritage. "The government did not heed the sadhus and baridars when passing laws for the shrines in Jammu region. Nominated Shrine boards were formed for Shiv Khori, Sartal mata etc. against the opposition of the pujaris there. The same sadhus and their supporters raised frivolous objections in case of a democratic shrine board for the temples and shrines of Kashmir. Most curiously the government which fought the pujaris of Jammu upto Supreme Court, let down the shrine bill," he said. |
