Inf Deptt employees overburdened, 90 odd posts vacant 8/31/2014 11:39:18 PM Sandeep Bhat SRINAGAR, Aug 31: The Department of Information and Public Relations is an important organ of any government as it is responsible for highlighting the work done by government through many mediums. The day to day work done by the government has to reach the people and this job is done by the Information Department. This department is a bridge between media, masses and government and the press releases issued by it are forwarded to both print and electronic media for publication. Nowadays, the employees of the department are feeling heat of the work which they never complaint to anyone. As per the information available and the credible source, Information Department is under staff and the work of two people is being done by one employee. The employees are working tirelessly 24 by 7. At present, there is 60 pc shortage of staff and it is overburdened. There are around 90 to 100 posts of Assistant Information Officers and DIOs vacant in the department which have not been filled till date. The department has different sections including Advertisement, PR, Photo unit, Film unit, Field publicity unit and cultural unit. The photo unit staff strength is around 22 and film unit has only 2 employees as against 25 in place, so photo unit is bearing the burden of film unit .As per the information available, Jitendra Bakshi was the last film production officer who retired in year 2006. Out of 24 DIOs (district information officers), only 15 are in place and majority of them are without vehicles. There are other posts also vacant in almost all the districts below DIO and AIO which hinders the working of the department. On the condition of anonymity, a person working in the department said that inspite of the shortage of the staff for so many years, our people are doing yeoman's service under the supervision of present Director, who is very cooperative and helpful, our boys are at the beck of the call and are ready for any kind of situation. He further said that this department is very important organ of the government and the vacant posts be filled as soon as possible in the department. This department has got many credits so its demand should be fulfilled. The Cultural unit is almost defunct as they hardly carry out their activity. Those who have been appointed in Cultural unit are busy in performing at other places like Doordarshan, Radio, stages and private functions, though they get salary from this department. Another person said that since government has enhanced age of employees, otherwise the things would have been worse.
