Take care of your eyes Mr Chief Minister | Teri aankhoon kay siva JK main rakha kya hai! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 31: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, it seems, holds a grudge against newspapers and journalists. He has been firing salvos on them since last week. On August 24 he said, People's Democratic Party (PDP) had purchased newspapers. "A PDP leader contesting against NC's Nasir Aslam Wani from Amira Kadal spends most of his time in a newspaper office," Omar said. Omar said he now reads newspapers for propaganda only. "My eyes ache while reading newspapers," he said adding 'I now have to use spectacles for reading a paper. That was not the case when I entered the Assembly." If some newspapers are not upholding the high traditions of their honourable profession, it is very bad. But as they say there is a silver lining in every cloud, the Chief Minister has at last realized the power of the pen. During Omar's regime, the government and the legislative assembly became increasingly intolerant towards the media. During the budget session in 2010, three breach of privilege notices were issued to newspaper owners and journalists. Omar did not hesitate raiding the houses of editors and sealing their printing presses. There have been as many as 30 manhandling cases of scribes during the past four years in the state. And a few days ago, yet another scribe was thrashed by the men in uniform. Today Omar gets surprised over seeing his photo in a newspaper. Noted Bollywood villain, Ajit would often say ‘bazi palat gayi’ to describe the helplessness of a hero. If Omar finds himself in the shoes of the despondent Bollywood hero, it is his fault and he needs to do some soul searching. The newspapers of the state are committed to uphold the truth. |
