NC, Cong responsible for rise of BJP, says Mehbooba | 2014- Assembly polls | | Neha
JAMMU, Aug 31: PDP president and MP Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday launched a blistering attack on the NC and the Congress. She charged both the parties with not doing anything for the people of Kashmir, including the stone throwers, who had been behind bars since 2010, and asserted that the NC would have to pay a very heavy price in the upcoming assembly elections. Talking to various news channels, she lambasted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, saying he, instead of fighting for the cause, frittered away his time and energy and only added to the woes and difficulties of the people of Kashmir. She did endorse his stand on Pakistan and Indo-Pak dialogue, but, at the same time, said that he mal-treated the people of Kashmir, especially the youth, during all these years of his gross misrule. But more than that, Mufti blamed both the NC and the Congress for the rise of the BJP in the state. Her specific charge against the ruling coalition was that it followed anti-people policies, created a political vacuum in the state and the BJP occupied this vacuum. She was highly critical of the NC and she was equally angry with the Congress. By siding with the NC, the Congress became unpopular and the result was that the BJP filled in the political space the Congress used to occupy in Jammu and Ladakh, she said in unequivocal terms. Obviously, she referred to the defeat of the Congress in Jammu and Ladakh and the massive victory of the BJP in both these regions. She also cautioned the people of Kashmir about the dangers which are in store for them in the coming days. Of course, her attack on the Congress also indicated that she had soft corner for the Congress. It is understandable. After all, many Congress leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Azad, maintain very good relations with her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the vice-versa. In fact, in December 2008, the Mufti had reportedly offered unconditional outside support to the Congress to keep the NC away from the state's corridors of power. The then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and many others in the Congress were for a tie up with the Mufti, but it was because of the Congress high command that things could not materialize. Mehbooba Mufti knows everything very well and that's the reason that she has a soft corner for the Congress. The fact of the matter is that she only bemoaned when she said that by keeping company with the NC, the Congress only destroyed itself and helped the BJP reach the state's centre stage. Remember, the BJP secured 32.4 per cent of the total votes polled in the Lok Sabha election and the vote share of the PDP was just a little over 20 per cent, that of the Congress about 22 per cent and that of the NC 11.1 per cent. The Congress' vote share also included some votes of the NC in Jammu like the NC's vote share included some Congress votes in Kashmir. It was clear from what Mehbooba Mufti said on Saturday that the PDP would use all available opportunity to expose the NC and its misdeeds and seek the people's mandate so that the PDP could form the next government in the state. She has already opened her cards. It would be only proper to say that the PDP would create a history in Kashmir in the assembly election like it created in the Lok Sabha election by winning all the three Kashmir Lok Sabha seats. In other words, both the NC and the Congress are in a deep trouble. |
