Black marketing of LPG cylinders goes unabated in Samba
8/31/2014 10:56:52 PM
Neeraj Badyal

SAMBA, Aug 31: The misuse of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes is rampant in Samba despite a ban on using cooking gas cylinders for other purpose than domestic use by distributors and the government. This has affected the supply of cooking gas cylinders to the people. Many restaurants, hotels and dhabas in the city are using domestic LPG cylinders in violation of rules set by the CAPD Department. The commercial cylinder is only show pieces at outside of the shop but a domestic cylinder is being used instead . The menace of selling LPG cylinders in blackis rampant , but it failed to address the problems of the people.
"Consumers of domestic LPG cylinders are forced to wait for a long time to get the refills. The Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department should take notice of this and other violations," said Surinder Kumar a local resident.
The administration has turned a blind eye to the problems of the common man. They are not doing their duty properly. Not only this, but the black marketing of gas is also playing greater role in non- availability of gas to genuine customers. The confectioners get advantage of LPG bought on subsidy, he added.
"No doubt they use commercial cylinders but just for display. Actually these cylinders are installed in front of the shop but the place where confectionery is being prepared; only domestic gas cylinders are used," said Vijay Kumar another resident.
He added that the long queues seen at the time of distribution of gas in the area. The gas supplied to Samba is enough to meet the demand of genuine customers but its black marketing has made it scarcely available.
"People from far flung villages come here but after waiting in queues for hours together, go back empty handed. Many times labourers waste their full day but all in vain. They have to return empty handed and their full day is wasted when they could have earned their bread," said Ghar Singh, a local villager. The disappointed customers alleged that there are many shops in Samba where black marketing of LPG is done especially in villages. They alleged some shopkeepers have stocked cylinders for sale in black.
They added here domestic gas cylinders are seen in restaurants, hotels, dhabas and a lot of business establishments but nobody cares for supply of gas to genuine customers.
