I am alive; thanks to Army, Air force and locals 9/9/2014 10:01:29 PM Sandeep Bhat Jammu, Sept 9: This was the worst nightmare for me and I have come out alive from this terrible condition of floods. As usual, I only had heard about flash floods of this kind but this was my first hand encounter with such horrific scene. I was thinking safe in circuit house MLA hostel and never had an iota of water logging so far in hostel and reaching second floor and increasing. But I was wrong and first time experienced such turbulent situation. I was here in Srinagar for assembly session and was writing and reporting for my paper from here. As usual, I was reporting from Srinagar and was staying initially in circuit house and then shifted to the safest place of Srinagar. But what I experienced is a lifer for me..The institution of legislators known as assembly and residence of legislators known as MLA hostel considered to be the safe and communicable place. The sighting of one boat gave me and other inmates of hostel a ray of hope after it was totally cut from other source of communication and the administration didn't bother to resque their own MLA s and what to talk of others and myself a journalist. The water raised from ground floor to first and then to second floor almost lost the hope of being alive and water continued to increase its level.I became helpless and tried to pacify others including MLAs, MLCs, ex.legislators, ex speaker and many others. This administration totally failed in rescuing their own people despite several requests on Facebook and other social network. Hats off to local young boys who helped me and others putting their life in risk to safety and the air force which has taken thousands of stranded people including me to my home after three to four days of pain, hunger, screams of infants, crying of women and children and the weeping of old in a situation where I had an rendezvous with death.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
