Administrative machinery completely collapsed in J&K, no clue of total casualties | Officers failed to learn lesson from 2005 snow tsunami | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 9: Administrative machinery has totally collapsed in Jammu and Kashmir after the devastating floods and incessant rains. Even after passing of nearly one week when incessant rains started causing devastation, administration has yet to reach to many areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Udhampur and Reasi. Government has yet to come up with the total figure of total death toll in Jammu region as well as number of houses collapsed. Except Jammu district, administration of all other flood affected districts has not prepared list of the people who lost their lives in the natural calamity. Those sitting on the chairs are waiting for news to pour in from the remotest areas. For example administration of Udhampur was completely failed to respond in time to the SOS from a village in Moungri which has been completely buried under the debris. Locals charged the administration with adopting non serious approach in dealing with such tragedies. The way civil administration is responding to the situation reflects that despite snow tsunami of 2005, administration in Jammu and Kashmir has not learnt any lesson. Instead of taking some emergent measures civil administration in the State seems to be allowing tragedies to happen. Some unconfirmed reports that many parts of the hilly districts of Jammu province are still unconnected with the rest of the world. Except approachable areas, authorities have not made any serious attempt to reach out the remotest areas which are still unconnected with telecommunication. Shockingly civil officers of most of the hilly districts are not aware of the total losses in their respective areas. |
