375 people rescued, Hundreds living under open sky | | | MS Nazki
Mendhar/Poonch, Sept 9: Joint rescue operations of Army and Police saved about 375 people from different locations of the Poonch town, who were trapped due to floods caused by heavy rains, said an official handout. As per the official handout, over 572 Pakka houses have been fully damaged, 398 partially damaged, 1720 Kutcha houses fully damaged, 3402 kutcha houses partially damaged, 203 shops, 8700 cattle sheds have been fully damaged and 798 cattle died in the worst flood that hit different areas of the town. With this, it was also revealed that 28298 Kanal of land has been eroded and 192 water mills badly damaged. Further, with reports of heavy rainfall in the town, people are living in open sky in Mendhar, Surankote and Mandi area of Poonch as administration is busy in preparing the list of people to be allocated tents. There are complaints from the town that only 90 tents have been received with the district administration while the number of people affected with the flash flood is very high. A team led by Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Poonch, Shafiq Ahmed and SSP Poonch under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Mohammad Hussain Malik toured various locations in Mendhar, Surankote and Mandi areas and monitored rescue operations there. Three persons trapped in Dingla River were rescued by a team of 10 police personnels led by SSP Poonch. In an effort to further enthuse the police personnel, ACR Revenue announced a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 to the police personnel for their bravery. Monday, number of village delegations had called on ACR Revenue with general complaints of shortage of power, water and food items to which assurances were given by the ACR but as per fresh reports, nothing has been provided to the people and they are living in open sans basic amenities. |
