227 Keralites stranded in flood-hit J&K | | | Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 9: The Kerala government tonight gathered information about 227 stranded Keralites in the flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir. An official release said 18 Keralites have returned safely from the disaster-hit areas today. 'We are also trying constantly to be in touch with the local authorities, hotel persons, travel agents for safe evacuation of each and every person.' On the direction of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, a 24-hour control room has been set up at Kerala House in Delhi. 'The control room is now fully functional and its numbers are 011-30411411 and 011-23347456,' Kerala House Resident Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said. He said the government has already handed over the details of stranded Keralites to the Jammu and Kashmir government and to the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF). These details have also reached the control room of the Ministry of Defence and Home. Civil Aviation Secretary Somasundaram has already given direction to CMD Air India for full support in this evacuation exercise. 'As a result we have 80 seats in Air India flights at 1415 hrs and 1630 hrs tomorrow from Srinagar to Delhi. We also have nearly 200 seats in similar flights day after. We are also expecting some passengers to come from other flights and special flights of Indian Air Force tomorrow.' The Controller and the Asstt Protocol Officer will be stationed at Delhi airport tomorrow and day after to bring the Keralites reaching Delhi to Kerala House, he added. |
