Youth demanding restoration of Power, water supply lathicharged | Five injured youth admitted to district hospital | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Sept 9 : Local youths of the nearby Garhi and Jib Thathi area of Udhampur were lathicharged by police yesterday night when they were protesting and demanding restoration of water and power supply, which were snatched six days back injuring five of them who were later admitted to the district hospital. Police resorted mild lathicharge on a peaceful dharna laid by around hundred youths at Jib Morh, ten kilometer away from here thereby blocking the Jammu Srinagar national highway for more than an hour late last night. Five local youth were injured and were later shifted by their colleges to the district hospital Udhampur where their condition is stated to be out of danger. "We were just sitting and protesting against the indifferent attitude of district administration as a population of around 50000 human souls are suffering badly due to lack of water and power supply since last six days. We just wanted that senior administration officer may come on the spot and assure us but instead police personnel came and straight way swung into action which is totally inhuman and illegal", said Veer Chander a local resident. " As it was late night and many of the youths were drunken, they resorted to stone pelting and thereafter we were left with no option but to take legal action under law and clear the national highway", said a senior police official. |
