Early Times Report

Kathua, Sept 12: The twenty-six players along with their coaches had returned home safely.
However, there was sigh of relief on the faces of players as well coaches yet, one could easily see a sign of fear on their faces.
Sharing their views with the media persons after reaching Kathua the players said, "When the rest of India was sleeping, the night of September 7 submerged nearly two hundred players of Jammu, Kathua, Ladakh and Udhampur in pool of floodwater measuring three to four feet. Initially we took the thing as just normal rain affect but sooner realized that the things are no easy as we are thinking".
Muzaffer Hussain said on September 7 at 2.30 am we came to know that floodwater is there outside their residence. Early in the morning, they found the water level gone to eight to ten feet from three to four feet. However, with the passage of time the level of water kept on increasing and hence their hardships.
He added that on the very first night of nature fury we had to sleep with little bites. Next day too there was no food to eat and we started collecting the eatables coming floating on floodwater. "Firstly we use to collect the packets of eatables like chips, biscuits etc; and after that we use to distribute them equally among all the two-hundred players", he added.
Sharing another experience of survival, Nitish, Sanjeev and Koushal said that trapping over there with terror, it was thrilling also.
Keeping in view the critical situations we managed to collect eggs in dozens, flour, rice, sugar, oil and other necessary things of kitchen. We had distributed the whole task. The boys knowing swimming would go in water and collect food articles from floodwater, some would clean them up and some prepare, some prepare chapattis and others distribute.
The players further added that along with survival they had arrangements for coming out of deep waters.
They constructed temporary boat of thermocoal of their mattresses, some old furniture and to tie all we prepared ropes from the covers of mattresses.
Not only this, when the Army rescue team came, the swimmers amongst us went out and collected cable wire, which we used to tie up with the army boat. It was up and down way and slowly the Army evacuated us all and sent to safer place. From there another team of Army lifted us and dropped at Srinagar Airport.
The players also appreciated the role of Indian Army and other forces, which are carrying out relief operation in the worst situations.
