Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 12: Strict directions given by none else than Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah himself to the security agencies to thefts in Srinagar city has substantiated the allegation that some anti-social elements are taking undue benefits of the prevailing chaos in Srinagar city.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who addressed a press conference at Srinagar faced questions regarding cases of thefts in the city and adjoining localities.
Regarding complaints of thefts as the water level is receding, the Chief Minister directed the police and security forces to report to their posts and maintain strict vigil to avoid theft incidents.
Important to mention here that people are complaining that some anti-social elements have been taking benefit of the human tragedies. There are reports that the groups of thieves have become active and they are coming on boats and lifting valuable things from the abandoned houses. It was only after these reports of thefts that some media persons raised this question before the Chief Minister.
On the one hand, helpless people are trying to save themselves and their family members from flood fury while on the other they have to protect their valuables from the gangs of thieves, who have become active for the last couple of days. In the prevailing situation when entire system has been collapsed and there is no police, such elements have been availing this free for all situation.
Furthermore in the pretext of rescuing the people, some anti-social elements have cheated them.
Ironically some lumpen elements in Srinagar city have been trying to make money on human tragedies. These elements are not only cheating tourists but they are also not sparing local helpless residents of Srinagar who are badly affected by the floods
