Ayurvedic dispensaries running in rented, one-room accommodations | Violation of IPHS guidelines | | Bijay Charak JAMMU, Sept 12: In winter capital of state and its adjoining areas, around 54 Ayurvedic dispensaries are running in violation of Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) guidelines since there is no proper infrastructure for these health centers. Moreover, none of these health centers have its own building. Sources said out of 54 Ayurvedic dispensaries, 29 were running in rented buildings and 11 on internal arrangement basis without any proper accommodation. The remaining 14 have their own buildings but astoundingly these also are in the same condition and violate IPHS norms. According to the norms of IPHS an Ayurvedic Dispensaries should have four to five rooms with facilities of waiting room, one room for two- four beds, and a store and one for clinic/office. And the facilities of toilet in each room and this facility is essential for waiting room. But surprising in Jammu district most of these health centers have no facilities of potable water and electricity and are running in single room, have no sitting arrangement only. In most of them, one Chair for faculty, an Almirah and a table are available. "Residential accommodation for faculty is a distant dream but state government has failed to establish essential building infrastructure to patients in such health centers", sources alleged. Ashok Kumar a resident of Satriana, tehsil RS Pura said that most of the Ayurvedic Dispensaries established by government in rural areas were not in a good condition. "They do not have proper buildings. Against the sanctioned staff strength of five, these only have pharmacists who are running these health centers for years and the post of medical officer and other pharmacist are vacant for years," he alleged. "Thank God Ayurvedic medicines have no side effects otherwise so many tragedies would have have happened by now as Pharmacist are treating people for years", Ashok said. Director of Indian Systems of Medicine (ISM/AYUSH), Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Abdul Kabir Dar didn't respond to repeated phone calls made to him. |
