| No village facing scarcity of relief material, says Jammu IG | | | Jammu, Sept 12 : The Inspector General (IG) of Jammu, Rajesh Yadav confirmed on Friday that none of the village in the flood-hit state is facing scarcity of relief material
"There is no village where relief material is scarce. Around 15000 people are at work and a nodal point has been fixed for all the relief material from where it will be distributed. The entire police force is working on restoration and relief work," said Yadav.
"We are addressing even the smallest hamlet and releasing people on priority who need medicines or are patients. All the police superintendants of my district have instructions that if at any place it is required to install temporary langar or provide food to people, or a camp needs to be established then they can start the work along with the civil administration," Yadav added.
He also said that last night 15 cars were arranged immediately, followed by some police cars and then 50 more cars were sent from Jammu.
"A fleet of 80 cars is working to safely send the rescued people to the railway station. Food arrangements were also done at the Udhampur railway station and we are giving packets to the people so that they don't face any trouble during the journey because they don't have money," he added.
Divisional Commissioner Shantmanu said that the state government has announced that free ration would be distributed to the affected families for three months and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has also said that they will supply as much food material as required.
"There are many godowns in Kashmir which are submerged under water. We have to send lot of relief material from Jammu. Keeping in mind that there could be shortage in Kashmir we have requested from the FCI to maintain the buffer stalk in the region," said Shantmanu.
Shantmanu also said, "Three days ago the whole team of BSNL with its technical experts went to Kashmir, submersible pumps, Dialysis Machines in special cases have also been sent from Jammu. So far we haven't faced any problems regarding lack coordination and we want to thank the army as they have also provided shelter to people in their camps."
Over 1, 27,000 persons have been rescued so far by the armed forces and NDRF from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing rescue and relief operation |
