Anantnag, Sept 21: Devastating floods have completely washed away over 1000 residential structures in Anatnag district of South Kashmir while over 50 villages in Kulgam district werew adversely affected rendering thousands homeless. The worst affected areas in Anantnag district were Hasanpora Tawala and Showl where floods have washed away 142 and 74 residential structures besides damaged agriculture land. Devastation due to floods has left over 1000 families in Anantnag district homeless who continue to live their lives in government school buildings. According to the figures released by local religious organization which toured the Anantnag district from last several days 30 residential houses collapsed in Tullkhan area of Bijbehara. According to it, 41 houses in Subhanpora, 41 houses Kanjigund, 4 houses in Guree, 44 houses in Urnhal, 12 houses in Sethar, 4 houses in Halmula, 12 houses in Kaypora, 50 houses in Marhama, 17 houses in Arwani, 142 houses in Hasanpora Tawala, 7 houses in Laktipora, 2 in Poshateng, 25 houses in semthan, 20 houses in Hassan bagh and 40 houses collapsed in Jablipora Bijbehara. Organization in its handout said that 5 houses collapsed in Veeri Anantnag, while as 6 houses in Laribal, 41 houses in Tachhloo, 51 houses in Uranhal Bala, 10 houses in Urnhal payeen, 53 houses in Kanjigund, 14 in Botengu, 74 in Showl, 36 in Sudsunu, 10 houses in Takia Bahramshah, 15 houses in Nowvathoo, 7 houses in Fathepora, 5 houses in Dahruna, 14 houses in Khandiphari, 8 houses in Khanabal, 3 houses in Mehandi Kadal, 13 houses in Anchidora, 6 houses in Qazi bagh, 14 houses in Janglat Mandi, 8 houses in Deva colony , 10 houses in Mirdantar, 3 houses collapsed in Hanjidantar, 7 houses in Armpora, 5 houses in MirgundKhanaba, 3 houses in Khood, 8 houses in Seepin, 5 houses in Batapora, 3 houses in Naibasti-Anantnag, 2 houses in Monghall and 5 houses collapsed in Roohu Anantnag due to devastating floods. Four residential houses collapsed in Mati area of Kokernag tehsil, while as in Shergund and Aahoo areas of Shangus tehsil 8 and 5 residtail structures collapsed respectively due to flash floods. Apart from washing away residential houses completely, the devastating floods have partially damaged structures, government buildgins and cow sheds too whose number will likely exceed to thousands. The floods have also washed away bridges, culverts, foot bridges and roads in various flood affected areas of the district. The destruction comeratively high in Kulgam district than Anantnag where the flash floods in Nallah vashio have washed away four villages completely after it changed its course. These villages include Kelam Gund, Zangalpora and Chambgund while as over 50 villages suffered damage due to the floods. An official told Early Times that flash floods have washed away 300 residential structures in the district. The worst affected area of the district is Zangalpora area where flash floods washed away 20 structures. Relief Commissioner, Asgar Samoon who is supervising the damage assessment due to floods in South Kashmir told media men that so far as they have not completed the process. "We have constituted committees for assessing the damage due to floods and they are working on it." He added. |
