Rana acknowledges failure of NC leaders Says, trust deficit big challenge for them

Early Times Report

Nagrota, Nov 15: Provincial President of National Conference Devender Singh Rana today acknowledged that politicians can't afford to take public for ride by indulging in rhetoric and populism, as they judge their representatives on the basis of their actions and not words.
It seems Chief Minister's Friday man has realized that during past six years the government led by his party has taken people for a ride and has only indulged in rhetoric and populism. Rana these days is working hard in Nagrota constituency and is trying his best to woo the voters.
He knows that the "dictatorial approach" of his party men in both the regions has pushed people to the wall.
"Trust deficit is a big challenge for politicians, which they will have to surmount by keeping up commitments," Rana said while addressing election meetings in Nagrota constituency today.
He seems to have realized that people don't trust his party anymore as National Conference from 2008 to 2014 failed to address the genuine problems of the people.
The NC legislators and ministers turned their backs towards the people who voted for them in 2008. He is making last ditch attempts to bridge the gap between the politicians and the masses but chances of this void getting filled are bleak.
Rana admitted that sloganeering and false promises have ruined the reputation of the NC leaders in the state and it would be difficult for them (NC leaders) to bounce back. " Sloganeering and false promises have terribly marred the credibility of those in public life, which should be a cause of concern for the politicians," he said.
He stressed on the politicians to promise what is achievable and said that corrective measures are needed to set NC's house in order. "Success of politicians lies in their comprehension of understanding genuine problems of the people and come up with answers to redress these in a time bound manner," he said.
Rana's assertions a few days before the polling day indicate that he has given up and has realized that National Conference has no future.
He seems disappointed and tired. He is hoping against the hope that some kind of miracle would pull NC out of troubled waters.
Rana has acknowledged that he and his party failed to live up to the expectations of the masses otherwise he would not have questioned the role of politicians while understanding the comprehension of people's problems.
Rana, who was considered to be instrumental in forging NC-Cong alliance, seems to be dismayed over the fact that Congress is blaming the National Conference for all the wrongs. He is asking people to vote for a stable government that means he has recognized that NC-Cong alliance was unstable and both the parties failed miserably.
Despite being tired, disappointed and dismayed, Rana didn't forget to heap praises on his boss the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
He gave an overview of what he called as the "achievements" of his boss and asked people to repose faith in National Conference again.
Given the mood of voters and the anti-incumbency wave in Jammu and Kashmir, Rana and his party are all set to take a back seat at least for next six years as poll surveys and analyst s are predicting that NC would face worst defeat in the forthcoming assembly polls.
