Politically wise PDP predicts fall of coalition, says contest only with BJP | Cong underestimating BJP | | Rustam
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 15: Congress and NC leaders are committing the same mistake that ensured the rout of their parties in the last Lok Sabha election. During the entire election campaign, the Congress and the NC had consistently rubbished reports that the Narendra Modi factor had changed the whole election scenario in the state and claimed that they, and not the BJP and the PDP, would sweep the election. That they were blissfully ignorant of the people's mood became evident when neither the NC nor the Congress won a single seat out of all the six seats they together contested. It was the BJP and the PDP which won three seats each. The BJP swept Jammu province and Ladakh region and the PDP decimated the NC in the Valley by defeating all the three sitting NC MPs, including Farooq Abdullah and Mehboob Beg with a huge margin. It is indeed surprising that the NC and Congress leaders like Omar Abdullah, Saif-ud-Din Soz and GhulamNabi Azad are underestimating the BJP and claiming that there will be no Modi or BJP magic in the state. It is obvious that they are living in a world of the past or they have failed to feel the political pulse in the state. They lost the LokSabha election because they had failed to appreciate the then existing ground realities in the state and they would meet a similar fate if they continue to behave in the manner they behaved during the LokSabha election days. It is interesting to note that the PDP was the only party in the state that didn't say much on Modi or the BJP. It hardly criticized Modi and the BJP during the LokSabha election. It only exposed the misdeeds of the ruling coalition, identified itself with the people's sentiments and the result was its grand success. Even today, the PDP leaders like party president Mehbooba Mufti are not attacking the BJP or Modi. They have again adopted that strategy that had ensured its victory in the LokSabha election. Not just this, Mehbooba Mufti not once but a number of times, including on Friday, has said that the contest this time in the state, including Kashmir, is between the PDP and the BJP and the Congress and the NC are nowhere in picture. This shows how mature the PDP leadership is. It is difficult to say that the Congress and the NC leadership would learn lesson from its past mistakes. The leadership of these two parties seems determined to do what it has been doing since the beginning of 2014. It is obvious that their respective parties, which are already in complete disarray, would again bite dust in the assembly elections. It would be only proper to say that Omar is sitting on the demise of the NC and the Soz and Azad on the ruins of the Congress. |
