| 2 former Mayors clash over Gandhi Nagar candidature | | | Sandeep Bhat

Jammu, Nov 15: The BJP has finally fielded former Mayor Kavinder Gupta from Gandhi Nagar constituency. However, this did not go well with a section of BJP workers who were present at the felicitation function held in honour of Ajatshatru Singh who recently joined BJP.
The agitated workers who wanted Manmohan Choudhury to represent the prestigious constituency chanted slogans against the party. Manmohan left the function midway.
Earlier, both former Mayors Kavinder Gupta and Manmohan Choudhary felicitated Ajatshatru Singh but as soon as the news of candidature of Kavinder Gupta came, Manmohan Choudhary along with his supporters left the venue midway and continuously raised slogans against the BJP.
The supporters of Choudhary while talking to reporters said that BJP has betrayed them as the Party had an understanding with Choudhary that after joining the Party he will be fielded from Gandhi Nagar Constituency.
It was on this assurance that Choudhary had joined the BJP. Criticizing the Party Choudhary said it has played with the sentiments of the his supporters who was a potential candidate for Gandhi
Nagar seat. He said being the president of Jat Sabha he has a lot of support in the community which too has a sizable number of voters in Gandhi Nagar.
BJP also cleared the name of Dr Manyal for Samba Assembly Segment while former Minister. Puran Singh was named as Party candidate for Darhal Constituency.
Two BJP MLAs Gharu Ram of RS Purab and Bhaarat Bushan Bodhi of Domana were also seen in the function. It is pertinent to mention here that both these legislators have been denied tickets this time.
Aditi Sharma was not present in the function. She also was a strong probable candidate for Gandhi Nagar constituency and her phone was switched off since couple of days.
Talking to early times, Avinash Rai Khanna, in charge state BJP president said that Kavinder Gupta is official candidate of party and we have not promised anything to Manmohan Choudhary and Aditi Sharma.
He further said that now Nagrota is only left in Jammu region and the candidate for the said constituency will be announced shortly. |
