HC reserves order on issuing notice to Modi for not revealing marital status in affidavit | | | Agencies AHMEDABAD, Nov 15: Gujarat high court on Saturday reserved its order on a petition that demanded issuance of notice to Prime Minister NarendraModi with regards to a complaint on the alleged defective affidavit filed by him during the 2012 assembly elections by not revealing his marital status. The complaint was filed by an AamAadmi Party (AAP) member NishantVarma. As per the case details, Modi had left the marital status column blank in the affidavit filed with his nomination papers during the assembly elections. But, during the LokSabha elections in April this year, he revealed in the affidavit that Jashodaben was his wife. Varma sought action against Modi and election officer during the 2012 elections P K Jadeja for this discrepancy. A magisterial court had turned down Varma's application on the ground that the complaint was filed more than a year after the incident. However, the court observed in its order that Modi was guilty of concealing the information and liable to be punished under section 125 (1)(3) of the Representation of People Act. |
