PDP workers seize 'NC' transformer | Accuse Saifullah of violating MCC | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 15: Opposition PDP workers today evening seized a community electric transformer near AlchizabKupwara in north Kashmir, alleging that it was brought by National Conference candidate and minister Saifullah to lure electorate in violation of Model Code of Conduct. The transformer, they said, was spotted by PDP's contesting candidate Fayaz Ahmad Mir on a load carrier and ultimately seized near Alchizab. "On inquiring, it came to fore that the transformer was brought by Mir Saifullah (Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs) for Awoora Kupwara which is clear violation of rules," said Nasir Ahmad, a PDP worker. Hundreds of PDP workers hit streets and staged a protets protest against what they termed "misuse" of official machinery by the National Conference. The protesting PDP workers declined to handover the transformer to the police and said they would do it before the local election officer. "I along with some workers were returning after a meeting at Awoora and when we reached near Alchizab, we saw a load-carrier slightly tilted with its driver trying to pass through the slight narrow road link there. We disembarked from our vehicle with an endeavor to help the load-carrier move from there but suddenly polythene cover came down and we saw a big transformer," said Fayaz Mir. On inquiring, he said, it turned out to be new transformer brought from Sanatnagar Srinagar."We will hand it over to District Election Officer only and demand a strict action for brazen violation of MCC by those in power presently." Despite repeated attempts Deputy Commissioner Kupwara or Mir Saifullah could not be contacted. |
