Jammu, Nov 19: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress committee on Wednesday organized a meeting to commemorate 97th Birth Anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. According to press release, vice president of JKPCC Thakur Hari Singh-and G.S. Bali, Minister CAPD, Transport and Technology from Himachal Pradeshwas guest of honour in this meeting. While paying floral tributes PCC leaders described Indira Gandhi as a dynamic and visionary leader who remained committed to the secular and socialist ideals of the party and worked for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden in the country. The leaders recalled her numerous achievements as Prime Minister and as President of the Congress party who always cared a lot for the workers of the party. Her decision to nationalize the banks and discontinuing privy purses to the former rulers of Indian princely states were revolutionary steps amid at equitable distribution of resources. She continued the efforts of her father Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, to further strengthen the growth of science and technology in the country, leading to the achievement of nuclear capability for the nation in order to safeguard the interests of the nation. While she will be remembered for her numerous contributions and her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country, the Congress leaders cautioned the people to be vigilant against the activities of certain communal and sectarian forces who are out to distort our history and destroy our secular fabric for the sake of vote bank politics. There are calculated attempts to twist the historical facts in order to mislead the countrymen about the role, contributions and achievements of the Congress party and its great leaders in nation building and its march towards progress as a secular and moderate democracy in the World.
