Poll surveys get closer to who wins how much in J&K elections | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 19: The race for the hot seat in J&K is getting closer and closer between the BJP and the PDP while the bigger political players of 2008, the Congress and the NC seem to get marginalized fast. Every exit poll has that the PDP would be the single largest party in the assembly and the BJP would be close to the PDP as the second largest party. The averaging of the numbers forecast by various poll organizations indicates the PDP would get around 30 seats with an error margin of three while the BJP would get around 27 seats. The NC and the Congress are likely to be the biggest losers in the state assembly elections according to these surveys. The numbers forecast for the NC are averaging around 10 while the Congress is believed to get under 10 seats. There are other possibilities, but these are not forecast by any pollster so far. Who forms the government since every poll survey is clear no single party will get 44 seats in the assembly elections? The largest single party would be the PDP, this is generally accepted by everybody, but would the PDP be in a commanding position to ensure that its chief ministerial candidate gets the full six year term? This would be very unlikely if the BJP gets anything above 25 seats. In a recent interview NC working President, Omar Abdullah has said the PDP would definitely align with the BJP. Omar significantly said the numbers would finally determine which party goes where. He has also said the NC would also have more or less the same priorities indicating that he is not averse to the NC aligning with the BJP if that could keep the PDP out of power. Given this flexibility and the uncertainty about any single party getting the magical number of 44, the present assembly election is going to be the most interesting and closely fought one in the electoral history of Jammu and Kashmir. The biggest surprise and thrill of these elections is that while the numbers are getting clearer with each passing day, the final outcome of those numbers is becoming more and more uncertain.
