Forest officer hurt in timber smugglers' attack

HANDWARA (KUPWARA), Nov 19 : Some timber smugglers today carried out a deadly attack on a forest officer in North Kashmir's Handwara area, injuring him critically.
Police has registered a case and started investigating the matter. In the forests of Handwara, Mohammad Ashraf Wani, an officer of the block social forestry, was injured critically when timber smugglers carried out a deadly attack on him, police sources said. Sources said the forest officer was beaten after he intervened when some timber smugglers were chopping off some trees in the forests. The injured officer was shifted to the hospital for treatment.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Sidiq, Mohammad Abbas, Bilal Ahmad and Irfan Ahmad.
