Cooperative Week concludes

Jammu, Nov 20 : As part of the ongoing celebrations of 61st Cooperative Week, a function was organized in the premises of Jammu Central Cooperative Bank (JCCB) at SehkariBhawan, Rail Head Complex, here today. The celebrations commenced with the unfurling of cooperative flag by the Chief Guest Ramesh Kumar Koul, Secretary to Government, Cooperatives Department. Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary said that the main purpose of celebrating the cooperative week is to highlight achievements of the Cooperative sector in various sectoral areas, reflect upon the shortcomings and chalk out future strategies of growth, based on dynamics of cooperative development in various sectors. Koul said that the cooperative structure ensures that the cooperatives are not enterprises run just for short term profits but are a business model for long term sustaina-bility and inclusive growth. Talking in context of the centenary celebrations of the Jammu Central Cooperative Bank (JCCB) the Secretary Cooperatives said that the Cooperative Credit Institutions in the country are playing an important role in inclusive growth as they are providing credit to the poor at low rates of interest so as to save them from the clutches of money lenders. He said that the Central Cooperative Banks have played a stellar role in poverty eradication and removal of economic imbalances due to which growth has become inclusive. While speaking on the occasion, Registrar Cooperative J&K, Basharat Saleem said that the mandate of the cooperative sector is not earning profit only but to provide services to the people with distinction, especially to the farmers and poor sections of the society. He asked the functionaries of Jammu Central Cooperative Bank to intensify the recovery mechanism for improvement the financial health of the institution which is imperative for sustaining in present competitive market.
