Quits BSP, Showkat joins Malhotras | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 5: Along with his supporters in a very large number, Bahujan Samaj Party's contesting candidate from Jammu east Assembly segment, Choudhary Showkat Gujjar today withdrew his candidature from the seat quoting that he was doing so impressed by the work done by the Congress candidate Vikram Malhotra and policies laid down by him. He said that he along with other leaders and activists of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) extends a 'whole-hearted' support to Vikram Malhotra. "I had entered into the poll arena with the sole motive to serve the people of Jammu east. However, the work done by my elder brother Vikram in the past for the people of this constituency and policies framed by him to carry forward the development activities in Jammu east have highly impressed me. It is therefore I have decided to quit from the contest and extend my whole hearted support to the Congress in Jammu east. Also my party workers and other leaders are with me in extending all support to Vikram ji," Showkat added. Showkat, in his address to media, on the occasion, said that Vikram Malhotra is a synonym of development in the constituency and he has all assurance from Vikram that he will redress to all the grievances of masses of Jammu east. "I appeal to all the members of Gujjar, Muslim and Harijan communities to vote in favour of Vikram Malhotra," he added. Vikram Malhotra, while speaking on the occasion assailed NC, BJP and PDP for indulging in exploiting the public sentiment by inciting passions. He said that this has affected the tempo of development in the recent years in Jammu east and since these parties have no agenda, they were attempting to create obstacles in the odyssey of holistic development. |
