BJP lures flood victims to attend Modi's Srinagar rally
30,000 PC supporters likely to don saffron attire

Early Times Report
srinagar, Dec 5: With just three days left for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address a "mega rally" in Srinagar, the Kashmir based leaders of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) are making all the possible efforts to ensure that people turn up to attend the PM's maiden rally in the Valley.
Sources told Early Times that BJP leaders have identified the flood hit families and are approaching them to seek their support for making rally a success. " Many BJP leaders during the past few days have visited flood hit Jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh and adjoining areas and have asked the inhabitants to attend Modi's rally along with their families,' sources said.
They said that they have assured the flood victims that if they attend Modi's rally they would be given monetary support to rebuild their damaged houses. "Recently a few BJP leaders had called a meeting of the flood hit people at the party headquarters and promised them all possible assistance after elections are over," sources added.
The insiders said besides flood hit victims the BJP leaders have roped in a few local leaders of the small parties who have assured them that their workers would don the Saffron attire and attend the rally. "The BJP leaders are heavily counting on the Chairman of the Peoples Conference Sajad Gani Lone for making Modi's rally a grand show," they said.
The separatist turned mainstream politician Sajad Lone, according to the sources, has promised that his 30,000 supporters would attend Modi's rally in Srinagar. "Sajad has already started mobilizing his workers and buses are being hired to fetch them from the far flung areas of north Kashmir," sources claimed.
They said, Modi's Srinagar rally is allegedly turning out to be a "big money spinner" as party is spending huge amounts to ensure the participation of the people. "The local leaders are minting huge money but no one among them is capable to make the rally a grand one on their own. Had they (BJP leaders) been capable there was no need to ask proxy parties like Peoples Conference and others to support them. For some local BJP persons here, the party has become a commercial enterprise," party sources added.
Some local BJP leaders are apprehensive about Modi's rally in Srinagar turning into a mega show. "Yes…we are banking on others. There is no doubt in it," said BJP's old hand in Kashmir.
Asked why, he said the party has given command to some new players here. "Some new faces have been made the elections in-charge for south, central and north Kashmir. They do whatever they like. No one knows them," he said.
The irony is that half of the BJP candidates who are contesting from various assembly segments are still unknown entities. "This is not a Modi wave here…it is simply money wave," the leader alleged.
Experts are of the opinion that Modi addressing a rally in Srinagar is a litmus test for the BJP leadership. "If they succeed in their endeavor to gather the people on December 8, they can silence their critics and can claim that Modi has conquered India from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari," said an analyst.
He said that Modi himself is a great orator and possesses the skill to mesmerize people. "The Prime Minister's straight forward approach has made him a darling of media and when he arrives in Kashmir on December 8 the event would get all the possible media attention. If BJP leaders fail to get the people in it can prove humiliating for the party," the analyst added.
