JK records highest power deficit across country in 2014
High demand low availability

Jammu, Dec 5: Notwithstanding the fact the state has been producing large quantity of power but the power deficit in state remained at peak in the state for the year 2014, across country, which has resulted in prolonged curtailments in summers in Jammu.
According to the details furnished by department, it has come to fore that the power deficit from April 2014 to October 2014 was highest in Jammu and Kashmir across the country.
"With 20 percent deficit in requirement and availability of power in state, J&K is at the top of list of all states followed by Uttar Pradesh having deficit of 16 percent despite having large variation in requirement of power as compared to J&K", for the last six months.
The requirement in Jammu and Kashmir for the first six months of financial year was 8880 Mega Units and availability for the same time was only 7107 Mega Units, making a deficit of 1773 MUs for six months.
Moreover, the peak requirement for the same period was 2521 and department was able to arrange 2017 MUs, causing a deficit of 504 MUs in peak demand and supply.
Uttar Pardesh which is at second slot in the list had requirement of 64164 MUs and availability was 53633 MUs.
Moreover, in the Northern region of country, Chandigarh had recorded zero deficit, having demand of 1077 MUs, Haryana recorded deficit of 0.4 percent, followed by Delhi with only 0.5 percent deficit, Himachal Pardesh and Rajasthan recorded 1.1 percent deficit and Punjab 1.4 percent deficit and Uttrakhand 3.5 percent deficit.
Chandigarh, Gujarat, Daman and Diu, Lakshadeep, Sikkim witnessed zero deficit for the last six months besides the peak deficit was recorded in Arunachal Pradesh 11 percent, Meghalaya 16.1 percent, Tripura 11.6 percent deficit in requirement and availability for the six months ranging from April 2014 to October 2014 was recorded.
The All India level energy deficit was recorded as 4.1 percent while in Northern region was 6.6 percent but in Jammu and Kashmir, which also comes under Northern Region was 20 percent.
