Jammu, Dec 5: Showing utter indifference towards the student community of state especially the Jammu region, the Union government led by Narinder Modi, has withheld the proposal sent by School Education Department for repairs and relocation of damaged school buildings in floods of September month. Though the annual examination is round the corner , the union government stays indifferent. Sources said that during floods in September 21014, nearly 1,276 government schools and their infrastructure was damaged across Jammu province and the administration had embarked an urgent proposal for repairing and relocation of buildings so that students could attend classes again. Sources informed Early Times that the Jammu and Kashmir School Education department had submitted a proposal amounting Rs 62 Crore before Union government, for sanctioning of funds for repairing and reconstruction of damaged educational infrastructure, nearly two months back, but so far there was reportedly no headway from Union government's side. "The recent floods in the state had severely affected the routine class work in several government schools across Jammu province which were badly affected by floods. The buildings of these institutions have been either partially or fully damaged," a teacher said. They further informed that getting cold shoulder from Union government on the proposal, the state Education department had also forwarded reminders but for no avail. According to details available with Early Times, damaged school infrastructure and buildings in Reasi were 288, followed by Poonch with 198 buildings and Udhampur with 172 buildings. 163 school buildings in Rajouri and 121 in Jammu district along with 110 in Ramban, 70 in Doda, 53 in Kishtwar and 34 in Samba district and rest in Kathua. "The annual examination of various classes is round the corner and it is now only few months left but we are not able to complete the syllabus due to paucity of space in the rented and makeshift accommodations, from where the schools are presently running", a teacher said. He further said that on the pretext of assembly elections and imposition of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) the funds for school infrastructure must not be withhold, keeping in sight the future of students. When contacted Director School Education, Jammu, H R Pakhroo said that they had submitted a proposal to higher authority for approval and they had also forwarded the same to Union government but so far no funds have been released by Union government. |
